Steven Finn out of tour match owing to injury ? Cricket News Update

Young England pacer Steven Finn has been forced to pull out of the remainder of the ongoing tour match between India A and an England XI in Mumbai after suffering an injury to his thigh.

The match commenced on October 30 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, with India A winning the toss and electing to bat first. Finn was handed the new ball, and bowled three overs during his first spell. However, he was only able to bowl one over during his second spell, after which he walked off the field after experiencing discomfort in his right thigh.

He remained on field for only an hour of play on day one, and did not return to the field later, with Jonathan Trott initially being relied upon to fill in with his medium pace. Finn underwent scans later in the evening, and the thigh injury was confirmed today.

?Steven Finn has been ruled out of the remainder of the three-day game with a right thigh strain,? confirmed Rhian Evans, the team spokeswoman. ?He will be assessed over the next couple of days to determine a rehabilitation programme.?

Finn was subsequently replaced by Tim Bresnan, who eventually went on to claim 3 for 59 during India A?s first innings. Following the incident, the 27-year-old right-armer revealed that Finn?s exact condition remained as yet uncertain, but the players were willing to step in and shoulder responsibility.

?Obviously we're disappointed one of our fast bowlers had to go off,? Bresnan had said initially after Finn had been forced to walk off. ?But it's one of those things where you just have to step up a bit, and each of you has to take on his responsibility.

?We're not sure what's happening. The doc will check him out back at the hotel. All we know is it's hurting, and scans will reveal more.?

Alongside Bresnan, Graeme Swann also claimed a total of 3 wickets, while James Anderson claimed 2 and Samit Patel picked up 1. India A were eventually all out at 369 on day 2.

England then followed up with a powerful batting display spearheaded by newly-appointed skipper Alastair Cook, who smashed an as-yet unbeaten 112. Trott (56) and Samit Patel (82*) also chipped in with useful performances, and England finished day 2 at 286, with only 4 wickets down.
