Amnesty International?s Human Rights Education Team at the International Secretariat in London is seeking an Education for Human Dignity Project Coordinator. The role is a fixed term contract starting immediately to 31 May 2013 and is based in London, UK.
The?Education for Human Dignity Project is in the final stages of its three-year international partnership funded by EuropeAid, aimed at raising awareness, informing debate and enabling action in order to tackle human rights abuses that drive and deepen poverty. Through human rights education and participatory approaches, young people and those that work with them (including teachers, youth workers and multipliers) have an increased understanding of the relationship between poverty and human rights, and are equipped and empowered to take action and call for human rights solutions to poverty.
Job description
A successful Project Coordinator will have planned,?coordinated, implemented, evaluated and reported on all parts of the Education for Human Dignity Project to ensure achievement of the project goals and objectives. This includes the coordination of the development and production of support tools and resources (including multimedia resources) for use by project partners, and the provision of effective support and advice to project partners in the implementation of projects at the national level.
S/he will have contributed to the effective functioning of the project team, and enhanced its contributions to the overall project goals, AI mission, the mandate of the Human Rights Education Team, and the development of human rights education policies while upholding AI?s values at all times.
Specified tasks:
- Lead on the final phase of the project and ensure adequate evaluation and reporting, in particular: oversee the external evaluation and ensure that learning is appropriately captured and disseminated, draw up final narrative and financial reports for external donors, and ensure that all project records are in order in preparation for an external audit.
- Problem analysis, budget management, evaluation and reporting to relevant bodies within and outside the Amnesty International movement to ensure that the project is effectively managed within the context of the International Human Rights Education Strategy and the parameters of the external donor.
- Offer all participating Amnesty International sections and structures and project partners on-going support and advice to plan, develop, implement and monitor human rights education activities under this project at the national level and ensure they have the necessary information and training to use the support resources and tools.
- Support the operational framework of the project and coordinate activities
- Coordinate the identification and analysis of lessons learned from the project through a utilization-based evaluation.? Reproduce lessons learnt and facilitate a shared learning process in order to ensure effective implementation of the project.
- Coordinate the overall operations, outputs and outcomes of the Education for Human Dignity project team, ensuring smooth, efficient and effective operations and high quality outputs from the project team.
- Other tasks as assigned within the responsibility, scope and nature of the post in order to ensure the effective implementation, evaluation, final reporting and transition of the Education for Human Dignity Project.
Eligibility
Required skills and experience:
- Proven experience in human rights education project management, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
- ?Demonstrated experience managing externally-funded projects (ideally by EuropeAid), with proven skills in reporting to external donors and partners, financial management, problem identification, stakeholder engagement, and monitoring and evaluation.
- Knowledge and experience in monitoring and evaluation of projects related to human rights, human rights education or other education for social change, including experience in designing, planning and implementing evaluative projects, and drafting project proposals.
- Proven understanding of human rights education methodology and practical experience in using such methodology to deliver human rights education projects.
- Experience in drafting substantial external and internal reports and briefings, including reports based on results based management and theory of change frameworks.
- ?Experience in monitoring and overseeing large complex multi-currency budgets and taking strategic decisions on most cost-effective solutions, taking into consideration funders? requirements.
- Excellent written communication skills with a proven ability to communicate on behalf of and represent Amnesty International in different fora, tailoring style and content of material for different purposes and people of different cultures.
- Ability to exercise diplomacy and tact in dealing with and building relationships with key stakeholders (both internal and external) at all levels.
- Ability to build support for and represent the project within the movement and liaise with people at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to schedule and plan work by setting clear goals, experience of working to deadlines and adjusting priorities according to needs.
- Ability to coordinate and motivate individual members of a team including volunteers, and generate and maintain team spirit.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex global and regional situations and exercise good political judgment.
Salary
Full time salary will be ?34,884 per annum (pro rata for part time staff)
